German Spindle Gouge

The Hamlet Craft Tools German Spindle Gouge is used for detailed shaping between centres on parallel grain, particularly for concave curves.  The gouge has an elongated nose making deeper cuts easier to achieve, and rounded edges for smooth handling and movement on the lathe rest. 

This fine turning tool, featuring a High Speed Steel blade, combines traditional handcrafting and forging skills with modern heat treatment to deliver the design and edge retention properties demanded by woodturners of today.

The blade is carefully forged, hardened and tempered, and then hardness tested to guarantee edge retention.

The Hamlet Craft Tools German Spindle Gouge is available in the below sizes:

  • HCT072 - 1/4" (6mm) with 10" handle
  • HCT073 - 3/8" (10mm) with 10" handle
  • HCT074 - 1/2" (13mm) with 10" handle
  • HCT075 - 3/4" (20mm) with 10" handle
  • HCT076 - 1" (25mm) with 10" handle
  • HCT077 - 1 1/4" (32mm) with 14" handle

The tool has a Hamlet brand stained beech handle and is finished with a brass ferrule.
