The Hamlet Craft Tools M42 Spindle Roughing Gouge is made from M42 High-Speed Steel, which is hardened and triple-tempered to enhance both performance and wear resistance, ensuring it stays sharper for a longer duration. This allows you to spend less time sharpening and more time turning. The gouge comes pre-sharpened and ready to use. The roughing gouge is used for taking the corners off uneven and square stock, leaving it round and ready for further turning. It will also make initial shaping cuts removing waste quickly and efficiently.
This fine turning tool, featuring an M42 High Speed Steel blade, combines traditional handcrafting and forging skills with modern heat treatment to deliver the design and edge retention properties demanded by woodturners of today.
The blade is carefully forged, hardened and triple-tempered, and then hardness tested to guarantee edge retention.

The tool has a Hamlet M42 brand ergonomic handle crafted from ash and features a red powder-coated solid brass ferrule.
